Awareness March Held and Introduction of Public Complaint Desk by the Bureau for the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children
The Bureau for the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children organized a special awareness march on July 19, 2025, from its Head Office. The march proceeded via the Maradana Railway Station and concluded at Galle Face Green.
The objective of the march was to raise public awareness regarding issues faced by women and children—such as gender-based violence, abuse, and other challenges—and to promote the 24-hour hotline 109, operated by the Bureau.
The event was led by Ms. Renuka Jayasundara, along with participation from Ms. Imesha Muthumala, Director of the Bureau, Mr. Merril Ranjan, and over 350 police officers from various districts including Gampaha, Kelaniya, Colombo, Panadura, Elpitiyaa, Galle, Matara, Tangalle, and Kuliyapitiya.
In addition to the march, the event included leaflet distribution, street dramas, and public demonstrations to educate the public on how to report abuse using hotline 109.
