Police arrested 157 persons for violating quarantine regulations last 24-hour (July 15). From 2020 October 30th, so far total 50,184 people arrested for not wear face masks, not main social distancing concept and not obey travel restriction rules. Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said the arrested individuals are charged under the provisions of the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance and the Penal Code of Sri Lanka. Out of all arrests, Police have filed law suits against about 43,000 persons. Wearing mask and social distancing are mandatory in Sri Lanka, if violated Rs.10,000 fine & up to 6 month’s imprisonment.

Police strictly enforce inter-provincial travel ban. The Tri-Forces and the Police Special Task Force (STF) has set up roadblocks at all provincial borders. 74 people who tried to cross the provincial boarders sent back after warning during last 24-hour. 14 roadblocks were setup in entry / exit points to Wester Province. Police arrested 1561 persons for violating quarantine rules & Travel Restrictions on June 16, the highest number of arrests made in a single day.

Health Officials say the new variant is rapidly spreading and number of YOUTHS infected are high, hence wearing a face mask is essential.
