New Zealand’s Deputy PM Winston Peters arrives in Sri Lanka

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand Winston Peters has arrived in the island on an official visit.

The Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) last night (24), where he was received by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment, Arun Hemachandra.

This is the first visit by a New Zealand Foreign Minister to Sri Lanka since 2013.

During his official visit, the Foreign Minister of New Zealand is scheduled to call on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, and Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath.

He will hold bilateral discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, agriculture, education, connectivity, tourism and sports. Deputy Prime Minister Peters is also expected to have several private sector and media engagements during the visit, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters is scheduled to conclude his visit to Sri Lanka on May 28.

After concluding his visit to Sri Lanka, the Deputy Prime Minister is expected to visit India, Nepal and Australia.
