In a disturbing turn of events, hundreds of crows were found dead in Puttalam town recently, resulting in the government veterinary surgeons launching an immediate investigation into the cause of deaths.
The veterinarians said they had sent the bodies of the dead crows to the Peradeniya University Veterinary Science faculty for tests to determine the exact cause of death.
Residents in the area said they had seen a flight of crows in the sky and they had suddenly started falling to the ground.
When the residents approached the birds, attempting to feed it water, the birds had been in pain and had within minutes died.
Much to the shock of area residents, hundreds of dead crows were lying dead on the ground and the police was called in.Â
The matter was then handed over to the veterinarians for further investigation.
