Heat index advisory issued for parts of the Sri Lanka

The Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is expected to increase up to ‘Caution’ level at some places in North-central & Eastern provinces. The temperature is expected to exceed 32°C in some districts.

As the heatwave continues to grip the nation, health officials are urging caution, particularly among children, athletes, and those spending significant time outdoors. Temperature records of several districts projected to exceed 32°C. Trincomalee may soar to a scorching 37°C, while Anuradhapura and Ratnapura are set to reach 36°C. Jaffna temperature is expected at 34°C.

Maximum temperature of 37.6°C recorded in Trincomalle area on August 25.

Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
