Bus fares will be increased with effect from midnight March 14 according to National Transport Commission. The decision was reached after considering the demands made by bus unions. Revised fares to be approved at the Cabinet meeting schedule March 14.
Bus unions demand for a diesel subsidy or an increase in bus fares. Unions request that the minimum bus far need to be raised up to Rs. 30 and the remaining charges by 25% – 30%. Recently, CEYPETCO and IOC announced record fuel price hikes.
