129 Chinese nationals arrested over online scams at luxury bungalow in Kundasale
A group of 129 Chinese nationals has been arrested in the Kundasale area, Kandy, for their alleged involvement in online financial scams, according to local authorities. In addition to the Chinese suspects, one Sri Lankan national is also being questioned in connection with the incident.
The police have seized 15 desktop computers and around 300 mobile phones during a raid on a luxury bungalow where the suspects were residing. The equipment was found in 47 rooms, with police officials stating that the amount may increase as they continue to account for the devices.
Investigations into the case have been slowed due to communication challenges, as the Chinese suspects are reportedly lacking English language proficiency, complicating the questioning process.
The police are now focused on identifying the extent of the online financial operations and any further individuals involved. (LankaXpress)
