The Director General of Health Services confirmed that 195 deaths occurred on August 19 due to the COVID. This is the highest single-day confirmed deaths in Sri Lanka.

According to Institute for Health Policy IHP data, Sri Lanka’s “Test Positivity Rate” seven day average shows as 23%. This is the highest Test Positivity Rate since the pandemic began last March.

According to Epidemiology Unit data, 3839 new COVID-19 cases were reported on August 20. Today caseload is the highest recorded since the pandemic began.

For the 1st time since the pandemic began, Sri Lanka’s active COVID patients count passed 50,000 mark. According to the data reported by the Epidemiology Unit, active cases count shows as 54,212.
