The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has decided to declare the ‘Black Week Protest’ from January 23 as scheduled earlier due to the government’s failure to remove recent tax policies.

GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said that the association has decided to take tough action against the government.

The association has decided to start the protest as the strongest opposition against the government, along with the people of the country, Dr. Aluthge said.

The protest week would be launched at every hospital across the country and they will hand over a petition with the signatures of 20,000 doctors demanding to reverse the new personal income tax, Dr. Aluthge said.

He said a program relating to the said activity had been implemented with the participation of all executive officers, including university lecturers and the banking sector.

This petition would be signed by every hospital in the country, he said.
