University students are protesting demanding the release of IUSF convenor Wasantha Mudalige and other students arrested during a protest in Colombo. Rajarata university students and University of South-East students launch protest this evening in front of the universities.
According to Police 12 persons including students have been arrested during the protest in Colombo. The arrests were made after police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse protesting university students who were marching through Town Hall and towards Union Place despite police blockades.
Inter University Students’ Federation “Anthare” and University students launched a protest march on August 18th against the government. The protest starts under the theme “Let’s oust the Deal Ranil – Rajapaksa junta!”. Protestors demand “Open Universities” to resume school and university education which has been paralyzed for three years.
