A fishing trawler with six crew members that departed from the Chilaw Dikkowita Fisheries Harbour on 12 January has been reported abducted by Somali pirates in the Arabian Sea, according to the Sri Lanka Fisheries Department.

The vessel set sail on a routine fishing expedition but fell victim to a pirate attack in the perilous waters of the Arabian Sea. The crew members, whose safety is of utmost concern, are believed to be held captive by the pirates.

The Sri Lanka Fisheries Department, in coordination with relevant authorities, is actively working to gather information about the incident and establish communication channels to negotiate the safe release of the abducted crew members.
