Considering the increasing tendency among students to learn foreign languages, the global economic trends and current economic priorities in Sri Lanka, a total of 162 graduates were recruited today to teach foreign languages in national schools.

While participating in the ceremony at the Ministry to hand over the appointments, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said the teacher appointments were made to 3-1 (a) Grade in the Sri Lanka Teaching Service.

A Cabinet decision was taken to recruit qualified graduates as teachers to teach French, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Hindi and German subjects in government schools with the aim of introducing new foreign languages to schools where language laboratories are currently operating, with the aim of expanding the number of foreign language schools currently in the school system.
