# U.S. Ambassador Discusses Election Transparency with Election Commission

Colombo, May 28, 2024 (LankaXpress.com) — U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Julie Chung, met with officials from the Sri Lankan Election Commission to discuss the upcoming election process. In a tweet following the meeting, Ambassador Chung expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to hear about the Commission's plans for ensuring a transparent election.

**"Appreciated meeting with the Election Commission to hear about plans for elections and upholding a transparent process," Chung tweeted. "As Sri Lanka, the U.S., and many countries face elections this year, we exchanged views on the importance of voting in free and fair elections as a pillar of democratic governance."**

As both the United States and Sri Lanka gear up for significant electoral events this year, the exchange of ideas on maintaining free and fair elections remains a vital aspect of their diplomatic relations.
